Stay Cool Without Staying Plugged In

Some of the best places to park an RV aren't the places with a power pedestal waiting beside you. The Greenland 12V RV Air Conditioner is designed for RVers, van travelers and campers who want cooling powered directly from their 12V DC electrical system.

Using an inverter compressor, the Greenland delivers variable cooling from 4,500 to 12,000 BTU while drawing a rated 180–600 watts, depending on operating conditions. Because it operates directly from 12V DC power, no separate AC inverter is required to operate the air conditioner.

The non-ducted rooftop design is suited to applications including Class B vans, truck campers and mini travel trailers, with a slim rooftop unit measuring just 7.4 inches high.

For overnight comfort, Sleep Mode can operate at sound levels as low as 40 dB, according to the manufacturer, while ECO and Sleep modes adjust compressor operation to help conserve available battery capacity.

Why Wander & Wake Chose It

This is a product that gets right to the ROAD side of Wander & Wake.

When you travel by RV, camper or van, having more flexibility in where you stop can completely change the trip. A 12V air-conditioning system is particularly interesting for travelers building around battery power, solar-supported systems and off-grid camping rather than depending exclusively on campground shore power.

We also like that Greenland has paired direct 12V operation with an inverter compressor instead of simply trying to deliver maximum cooling all the time. For the right RV electrical system, that means cooling can become part of the overall battery-management strategy.

And yes—the ability to keep the system operating while traveling, when the RV's battery and charging system are properly designed to support the load, is a feature we'd absolutely appreciate on a hot travel day.

This isn't a universal plug-and-play RV accessory, but for the right setup, it's exactly the type of equipment that can make life on the road more comfortable.

Electrical Requirements

  • Power supply: 12V DC
  • Minimum Circuit Ampacity: 60A
  • Maximum Circuit Protection: 100A
  • Manufacturer recommends a 300Ah or larger battery bank
  • Manufacturer estimates approximately 8–10 hours of operation with a 480Ah battery bank, depending on conditions and operating mode

Actual runtime will vary considerably based on ambient temperature, desired interior temperature, compressor demand, battery chemistry and condition, charging input and the RV's overall electrical system.

Fitment & Installation

The Greenland is designed for applications including Class B vans, truck campers and mini trailers.

  • GLD09: Requires a 12"–14" x 14" rooftop opening
  • GLD12: Requires a standard 14" x 14" rooftop opening
  • Non-ducted installation
  • Pre-drilled casing ports allow external wire routing when required

Professional installation is recommended, particularly when modifications to electrical wiring, roof openings or the unit casing are required. Always verify model-specific dimensions, electrical requirements and roof compatibility before ordering.

Good to Know

A 12V air conditioner is only as capable as the electrical system supplying it. Before purchasing, confirm that your RV's battery bank, wiring, charging system, alternator/vehicle charging configuration and circuit protection are appropriately designed for the unit's requirements.

Because sometimes the best campsite is the one without a power cord attached to it.
